Honey is fantastic for skin for many reasons, it is:
- Moisturizing – Honey is a natural humectant which means it attracts moisture to itself making it perfect for dry skin
- Acneic Skin – Honey is especially good for acneic skin because of it’s antimicrobial properties. This is especially true if you use UMF honey which is extremely high in antibacterial and antifungal agents and it’s a natural antibiotic.
- Exfoliant – Honey is also good as a mild exfoliant for sloughing off dead skin cells because of it’s high sugar content.
- Healing – Honey has healing regenerating properties so it’s renewing and anti-aging.
As you can see any mask or treatment made of honey is a great base to add other ingredients to like the one below:
Basic honey facial mask with the following recipe:
- 2 tblsp honey
- 1 tsp ground oatmeal
Mix together the above ingredients then add the following to the mix based on your skin type:
Dry Skin Anti-aging Avocado and Honey Face Mask
2 tblsp of mashed avocado flesh
1 egg yolk
Blend together well by hand or with a blender. Apply to skin with fingertips. Leave on for approximately 30 minutes then wash off with warm water.
Moisturizing Honey and Egg Mask
1 egg yolk
1/2 teaspoon Almond oil or grape seed oil
1 tblsp yogurt
Mix well in a bowl until sticky and thick. Apply the mask to your skin with fingertips for 5 minutes and then rinse off .
This mask refines your pores and is very moisturizing.
For Tired Skin: Almond Yogurt Honey Mask
12 tblsp plain yoghurt
¼oz finely-crushed almonds
2 tsp wheatgerm oil or macadamia oil
Mix all the ingredients together so they form a smooth paste. Apply and massage the mixture into your skin in a small circular motion. Leave on for 20 minutes before you rinse off.
Normal Skin Apple Honey Mask
1 apple or 1/2 cup apple sauce
Blend together thoroughly then refrigerate for 10 minutes. Dab the mixture onto your face repeatedly until the honey feels tacky. Leave on your skin for 30 minutes and then rinse off.
Acneic or Oily Skin Honey Papaya Mask
5 tblsp cocoa or softened chocolate
3 tsp heavy cream
5 tblsp mashed papaya
Blend together well and apply to skin with fingertips. Leave on for 10 minutes then rinse off.
This is great for problem skin as it restores the skins PH balance and also for removing dead skin cells. Anti-aging mask.
Oily Skin Carrot Face Mask
2 carrots cooked and mashed
Blend well together and apply to face with fingertips. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes then rinse off with warm water.
Banana and Honey Sensitive Skin Facial Mask
1/2 mashed banana
1/4 cup oatmeal cooked with milk
1 egg
Mix ingredients together well. Massage into skin in a slow, circular motion and leave for 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water, This is a very soothing calming gentle mask.
Lightening Honey Cucumber Mask
4 tblsp crushed cucumber
Mix the ingredients, apply to a moist face. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes. Then rinse off with warm water.
This recipes is good for evening skin tone and is refreshing.
Honey Lavender Facial Mask For Every Skin Type
3 drops lavender essential oil
Mix the ingredients, apply to a moist face. Leave the mask on for 15 minutes. Then rinse off with warm water.
