Natural homemade face masks – ingredients
There are many fantastic ingredients to use in natural face masks. There are many benefits in fruits, seeds, nuts, dairy products, herbs and oils including alpha hydroxy acids, essential fatty acids, moisturizing emollients and humectants that draw moisture from the environment.
These are all available to you in the every day products you can buy from the supermarket, health store and garden.
Here is a list of ingredients you can use in natural face masks and what they do:
Avocado: high in fatty acids and oils. Very moisturizing for skin
Almond oil: also high in fatty acids and moisturizing for skin
Cucumber: contains healing, refreshing and lightening properties
Tropical fruits: like pineapple, pawpaw and papaya: contains papain or other enzymes and fruit acids to gently remove skin cells and stimulate cell growth
All fruits: rich in vitamins like vitamin C and A which are great for skin both repairing, brightening and healing
Wheatgerm, Apricot, Macadamia or other nut oils: very high in essential fatty acids making it moisturizing for skin taking moisture deeper into the skin.
Banana: banana is rich in B vitamin and C vitamin and makes a good base
Eggs: contain sulphur (good for acne) and as a base as its tightening for skin
Honey and Aloe Vera: are natural humectants meaning they attract water. Also good for acne and honey is antmicrobial, antibacterial and antioxidant
Essential oils: oils like melaleuca (tea tree) and lavender are antibacterial, antimicrobial so are great for acneic skin and for oily skin and blackheads. You only needs a few drops of these in masks and there are whole range of essential oils that contain powerful antiaging properties and can be used in bases for natural skin masks and oil serum blends
Parsley: great for red veins as is geranium and neroli
Argan, Extra Virgin Olive and Coconut oils: these are super moisturizing for your skin and protect your skin as well
Evening primrose and carrot seed oils: contain lots of EFA’s, liposomes vitamins and other super antiaging properties. Using carrot masks or oils are very good for delivering vitamin into your skin especially when combined with EFA rich ingredients because EFA’s take vitamins and mineral into the skin.
Seeds and nut meal (ground nuts and seeds) and oatmeal: are great for gentle exfoliation and also contain beneficial oils. Oatmeal is very soothing for itchy skin especially when added to chamomile tea.
Make a natural homemade face mask:

You can take any of these ingredients and make a base of 1/2 cup egg, banana, oatmeal, avocado, mashed apple. mashed carrot or papaya – not tropical fruits should only be left on skin for up to ten minutes) and add a tablespoon of your favorite oil. I like coconut and olive oil or avocado oil in natural face masks for their deep moisturising benefits.
Instructions:
You can blend in seeds or nuts (finely ground) and apply them in a gentle circular motion for an exfoliating mask. Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes before washing off.
