Olive oil for face cleansing:
For years, people in the Mediterranean have included olive oil in their skin care routines. This oil is nourishing while cleansing and can benefit people with any skin type.
To clean skin, pour a quarter-sized amount of extra virgin olive oil into the palm and use fingertips to rub it into the face in circular movements.
Massage the oil in for one to two minutes, dip a wash cloth in hot water, and hold this on the face for approximately 30 seconds. Rinse the cloth with more hot water and use it to gently remove the oil. You can also add a teaspoon of honey to this recipe for an extra nourishing cleanser or aloe vera juice to heal and soothe sun or wind beaten skin.
Use a paper towel to pat the face dry and repeat the process each morning and evening. Blackheads should disappear, pores will shrink, and skin will have a healthy glow.
Olive oil as a serum moisturizer for skin:
Olive oil contains vitamin E that nourishes skin on it’s own, but you can combine 50 to 80% Olive oil with other oils including Jojoba, Grape seed, Argan, Rosehip and Evening primrose – or a range of many other base oils and essential oils depending on your skin type. For example, you can add a few drops of Lavender or Tea tree oil for acneic skin (see recipe below) or Rosehip, Argan and Almond oil (can also use Jojoba or Grape seed oil) to reduce the appearance of scars.
To moisturize the sensitive area around eyes, dab some olive oil onto the eyelids, under-eye area, and corner of eyes each night. Lips look shiny and feel moisturized when rubbed with a small amount of olive oil. Massage the oil directly onto dry patches of facial skin and within days, the dryness should disappear.
Olive oil hydrating anti-aging boost:
If you want to boost the benefits of olive oil for face moisturizing and conditioning, add add a few drops of rose hip, carrot seed and/or borage oil to this recipe for a anti-aging nourishing treat!
Olive oil as a body and face scrub:
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon honey
Squeeze of lemon juice for oily or acne prone skin.
Blend well and apply to skin as a gentle scrub before washing off with warm water.
Olive oil is great for so many things from face serums, cleansers and moisturizers to scrubs as well as helping skin from the inside when included as part of a healthy diet. You can even make hair conditioner from this oil and use it in the shower.
Once you know how to enjoy the many benefits of olive oil, there will always be a reason to keep a good stock of it in your kitchen!
