Benefits of Sleep for Skin
Sleep is important for a healthy body and mind. It is important because during sleep your body is repairing and renewing cells – including skin cells and uses sleep time to recover from daily wear and tear.
A lack of adequate sleep increases stress – for both your body and mind. In this day and age there are many environmental and lifestyle induced stresses and so it’s even more important to remember to take time out away from stimulation.
Having enough sleep is also a symptom of our modern lifestyle.
With the use of smart phones, computers, and flat-screen televisions, many of us don’t get enough sleep. Studies show that your body takes 30 to 60 minutes to “wind down” after exposure to electronic devices. Brain activity is heightened by electronic wave pulses generated by these devices.
So remember to turn your tv off and avoid using your computer 30 to 60 minutes before going to bed.
Life can be beautiful, and stressful! Whether you worry about money, study, family or other things. But did you know that for every hour of sleep you lose a night, studies show your stress levels increases 14%!
Getting 8 hours of sleep minimum is recommended every night to allow your body the rest it needs.
Some tips for getting a good nights sleep:
- Temperature – sleep in a cool room as research shows it is easier to sleep and you sleep deeper in a cooler temperature
- Turn off technology or sleep at least 15 feet away from all electronic devices
- Drink a decaf tea or coffee with a little honey before bed.
- Rub your body in an oil or moisturizer with a few drops of lavender oil added to it (pure oil not fragranced).
- Read a book or magazine before bed.
- Take ten long deep breaths before you sleep – a great soother.
Follow these steps and allow your body the sleep it needs. Take a walk or do something that relaxes you.
