Smoothies are a fabulously nutritious and delicious way to get nutrients into your body. This summer berry recipe requires only three ingredients but you can add many more if you wish.
You can also use this as a face mask at the same time to charge your skin with moisture and protective antioxidants.
You can add different ingredients to smoothies for different results and even make a smoothie skin scrub with fruit smoothies and brown sugar.
Here are some excellent skin enhancing ingredients to use in your smoothie:
Melons and Tropical Fruits
Melons and pineapple as well as pawpaw and kiwifruit fruits contain papain – an enzyme that helps with digestion of protein both in your stomach and on your skin.
Add pineapple, cantaloupe, watermelon, papaya or other tropical fruits to a smoothie or your skin (only leave on skin for ten minutes as this has a powerful “peel” type effect on skin).
Has “good” bacteria and digestive enzymes for your stomach, as well as lightly bleaching for skin, antibacterial and moisturizing. The lactic acid also exfoliates and renews skin.
Rich in vitamins and antioxidants for both inner and skin health. Antioxidants scavenge harmful free radicals that damage cells and prematurely age us.
Coconut Cream Or Milk (and extra virgin coconut oil)
Loaded with electrolytes, vitamins and moisture for skin – you can also add extra virgin coconut oil that is rich in many vitamins and minerals for skin and your body. Also antibacterial so good for stomach bugs and inflamed acneic skin.
Citrus is loaded with vitamin C and antioxidants and lemon helps to alkalize the body. Also good for acneic skin.
Aloe Vera Juice
Balancing and healing for digestive disorders and skin complaints. An all round great additive in juices and smoothies – especially for skin.
Almonds are alkalizing and contain good oils for skin and your body. Grounds almonds make a good scrub when combined with fruit smoothies. You can also alternatively use brown sugar.
How To Make A Basic Smoothie For Skin
Add two cups of yogurt to a blender (sweet for a sweet version or unsweetened if you wish)
2 tablespoons of honey (or I use Stevia if I want to avoid sugary ingredients)
1 whole ripe banana (or two)
A handful of frozen berries or chopped frozen melon
A tablespoon finely ground Almonds (optional, can also use sunflower seeds)
1 cup of juice (can also use aloe vera juice, coconut juice or vegetable juice)
Blend until smooth and enjoy cold. You can also apply a thin layer of this to your face and neck for ten minutes of add a little brown sugar or oatmeal to a small amount of smoothie and exfoliate your skin with this mix.
