Vitamin C For Your Skin And Body
Vitamin C as most people know is found in many fruits and vegetables. It’s important because it is needed for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body including your skin.
Your body uses Vitamin C to form an important protein used to make tendons, ligaments, blood vessels and skin. It also helps to heal wounds and reduce scar tissue and even repair bones, cartilage and teeth.
Another important role Vitamin C plays is one of free radical scavenger because it is a powerful antioxidant. Free radicals play a huge part in the aging process and may be a factor in the onset of conditions like cancer, heart disease and arthritis. Vitamin C helps to scavenge or neutralize free radicals and their cell damaging effects.
Your body is unable to make Vitamin C on its own, nor can it store it which is why it important to include an array of Vitamin C rich foods in your daily diet.
Vitamin C for skin. Vitamin C stimulates new cell growth and protects your skin with antioxidants that slow the aging process. Skin that has had regular treatments of Vitamin C is brighter, smoother and has a more even skin tone. It can even help repair sun damage and reduce fine lines.

The best sources of Vitamin C are uncooked fruits and vegetables. The cooking process destroys some of the vitamins and enzymes in the foods we eat so fresh raw veggies and fruits is best for optimum health. This also applies to fruit and vegetables (and oils) that are applied to our skin.
This is also why using fresh fruit masks on our skin is a great way to deliver a rich dose of Vitamin C into our skin.
Fruits like avocado that contain Vitamin C and other beneficial vitamins are also a rich source of essential fatty acids which are amino acids that help our body to absorb/take vitamins deep into skin’s layers.
This is why when you combine fresh fruits with EFA (essential fatty acid) rich fruits like avocado as a face mask – with the addition of oils (also rich in essential fatty acids) you can really improve the appearance of your skin.
Using fruits that also contain protein dissolving papain enzymes exfoliates your skin and stimulates new cell growth – and speeding up the skins renewal process.
Here are some easy but very effective recipes using the ingredients above:
Vitamin C boost mask:
2 tablespoons of any of the following mashed fruits:
• Cantaloupe
• Kiwi fruit
• Lemon
• Mango
• Papaya
• Paw Paw
• Pineapple
• Pomegranate
• Strawberries, raspberries, cranberries, blueberries
• Watermelon
2 tablespoons of mashed avocado, mashed cooked carrot (also rich in repairing Vitamin A, mashed green or yellow pepper (stimulating for skin), mashed cooked cauliflower or cooked mashed sweet potato. You can also use a combination of these.
Blend until smooth and apply with fingertips over your whole face. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes.
IMPORTANT: If you are using pineapple, cantaloupe, pawpaw. papaya or kiwifruit, these fruits contain papain and so are very powerful renewing and stimulating ingredients that can irritate skin if left on for more than ten minutes. Do not leave a mask using these fruits on for more than ten minutes.
This makes a very rich Vitamin C mask for your skin. You can store this mixture in the refrigerator for several days or in ice cubes in the freezer for later use. Use this twice a week for a Vitamin C boost.
