Calendula is known for it’s healing qualities. It is most often used in creams and serums for healing rashes, cuts, burns and other skin damage.
Calendula speeds up the skins ability to repair itself aiding healing. It is commonly used for baby rash creams and in eczema treatments. It can be used for scars left from acne breakouts or burns and Calendula oil is a fabulous additive in homemade skin serums like the one below.
Healing Facial Serums
Used with other oils like Rosehip, Wheatgerm and Argan oil, it is very nourishing to skin. You can also use Almond oil as a carrier oil to add others to. The vitamins in oils like Carrot seed are high in Vitamin C and A and are also super antioxidants which absorb damaging free radicals that cause premature ageing of your skin. Chamomile oil helps to calm any inflammation and other oils like Fennel and Frankincense help to firm and tighten skin. Avocado and Evening primrose oils are also very good for mature or dry skin and hormonally imbalance effected skin.
When you combine a mix of several of these ingredients together – you can create an incredibly moisturising, repairing and protective daily treatment for your skin. When used regularly you will see a huge improvement in your skin’s overall appearance but especially a lightening of scars and redness after inflammation.
I love using serums to brighten my complexion, they are fast absorbing and incredibly nourishing for thirsty tired skin. They are a great way to restore radiance to your complexion.
Here is my favorite serum recipe for damaged or red skin and scarring (also amazing for getting rid of stretch marks).
Calendula Healing Serum Oil Blend
2 tablespoons Almond oil (can also make a mix of Argan, Almond and/or Wheatgerm oils for a richer blend but I have said Almond oil here as it’s the easiest to find)
1 teaspoon Rosehip oil (optional but this oil is excellent for scars and stretch marks)
4 drops Calendula oil
4 drops Carrot seed oil
3 drops Borage oil (optional but makes it more potent for better results)
Blend together well by shaking in a glass bottle. Store in a cool place out of direct sunlight. Apply a few drops daily (or twice daily if you wish) to a clean face under moisturizer. It is also nice applied to the décolletage – an area many people forget to look after.
This is a beautifully light blend but delivers lots of benefits deep into your skin’s layers. This is just one of many serum recipes you can make in a few minutes that are low cost and last for ages. Enjoy!
